SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATION BY NDRF MAHAD, RAIGAD

Dated 04th August, 2016 Time 1800 Hrs

Massive search operation by NDRF to trace the missing personsin the Savitri River at Mahad on the Mumbai-Goa Highway in Maharashtra's Raigad District is in full swing. Four teams of NDRF comprising of over 100 responders, 12 Inflatable Rubber Boats (IRBs), Lifebuoy, Life Jackets and other flood rescue equipment are operational since yesterday morning.

Despite the strong currents of the overflowing Savitri and odd weather conditions, the brave hearts of NDRF delivering their best to trace for the victims and vehicles washed away by the water. The NDRF teams comprising of expert deep divers are searching the surrounding area of the collapsed bridge even though the current is strong.

Today, NDRF team while undertaking search operation recovered one body, 4 Km from the collapsed bridge towards the Arabian Sea. The identification of body is still awaited. The operation to trace the other missing is still in progress.

A 24X7, NDRF control room in New Delhi is closely monitoring the situation is in touch with state agencies.
