RESCUE & RELIEF OPERATION BY NDRF IN KERALA

Humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is continuing in some parts of the country, where heavy rains creating flood like situations in low lying areas, leaving several people marooned. Total 115 teams of NDRF have been deployed across the country out of which 68 teams are prepositioned in 59 flood prone locations for timely relief and rescue operation in the event of flood or flood like situations.

The incessant rains in Kerala had raised the water level of Meenachil river and its tributaries, resulting to the breach of an embankment that marooned several villagers in low lying areas and disturbed the normal life. On requisition of state authority, 01 self-contained team further divided in 02 sub teams have been mobilised from RRC Thrissur to Vill. Kosamattam & Terure, Distt. Kottayam, team carried out the evacuation operations and evacuated 143 stranded people to safer place. Besides, 01 more team operational at kayineri, Distt. Alappuzha (kerala) in connection with the water logging in low lying areas and some people are reported to be stranded. Rescue and relief operation still continue.

So far, NDRF teams have evacuated over 16000 people and provided medical assistance to more than 3100 needy people across the country during this monsoon season.

A 24x7 NDRF control room in Delhi is closely monitoring the situation and in touch with State EOC.
