RESCUE AND RELIEF OPERATION BY NDRF IN NORTHEAST

The recent heavy rainfall in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh raised the water level of main rivers like Brahmaputra and its tributaries and created flood like situations in few locations.

Arunachal Pradesh : Today, 25 villagers got stuck at Tezu in District- Lohit, Arunachal Pradesh. These villagers while working in their field got stuck due to sudden increase ofwater level in tributary of Lohit River. On intimation from local administration, one flood rescue team of NDRF immediately mobilized from NDRF base Namsai for rescue operation. However, the heavy current of water intervened the rescue work. The brave-hearts of NDRF made access to the victims though its Inflatable Rubber Boats (IRBs) and rescued all marooned persons.

Assam : The fresh rains created flood like situations in some parts of Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Chirang and Kokrajhar districts. For prompt response to flood victims, one team is operational at Village- Laimekuri, District Dhimaji. One team each is en-route to Kokarjhar and Jorhat. One team is deployed at Tinsukia. To strengthen the rescue operation, some additional teams are being mobilized to flood affected areas.

NDRF HQ, New Delhi is monitoring the situation closely and is in touch with other agencies and stakeholders.
