The continuous heavy rains across the Gujarat leading to water logging in several parts of the state, resulting overflow of several rivers and affecting the normal life. 17 self-contained teams of (NDRF) have been pre-positioned in various flood prone areas of Gujarat to tackle the eventualities arising due to floods. 01 team each at Surat, Valsad, Panchmahal, Banaskatha, Mahisagar, Vavsari, Aravali, Jaitpur (Rajkot), Amreli, Bhavnagar and Tapi, 02 teams are at Gandhinagar and 04 at Gir Somnath.03 teams are on stand by at NDRF Base Vododara .In view of forecast of heavy rains in the next five days, all Teams are advised to remain prepared. Additional teams are kept as stand by at NDRF base Varodara, Gujarat.
NDRF teams are engaged to restore the normalcy in the flooded areas. NDRF teams operational at flooded areas of Girsomnath, evacuated 90 marooned people & 06 livestock to safer places and also distributed 550 food pkts.
In addition, 02 teams are operational at Kosamatta & Terure, Kottayam in Kerala in connection with the water logging in low lying areas. During the rescue and relief operation teams have evacuated 36 stranded people to safer places, operation still continues.
In anticipation of heavy rains and floods during the monsoon season, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has pre-positioned its 69 teams in 14 states while stationed 39 teams at permanent locations in 23 states for emergency response. Additional teams are also on standby in all NDRF battalions and shall be mobilized as per the demand.
A 24x7, NDRF control room in Delhi is closely monitoring the situation round the clock and is in touch with other agencies/stakeholder.
