RELIEF AND EVACUATION OPERATION BY NDRF IN ASSAM AND BIHAR

As a part of proactive measures, 119 teams of NDRF have been deployed in various parts of the country keeping in view the disaster vulnerability and to keep extra vigil at locations where heavy rainfalls cause flood. All NDRF teams are equipped with boats, divers and other flood rescue related equipment and will be making the best use of their professionalism and technology in the discharge of their mandate.
Assam: 14 NDRF teams have been deployed in Assam at Barpeta (01), Bongaigaon (01), Biswanath Chariali (01), Cachar (01), Dhemaji (02), Golaghat (01), Guwahati (01), Jorhat (01), Lakhimpur (01), Morigaon (02), Sivasagar (01) & Tinsukia (01), where the torrential rain and overflowing rivers & water bodies have worsened the flood situation in various parts of the region. NDRF teams are continuously engaged in assisting the local administration in rescue and relief work. Today, NDRF teams were operational in the low lying areas of Distt. Bishwanath Chariali, Golaghat Morigaon & Tinsukia. NDRF evacuated 460 people and shifted them to safer places. So far, NDRF teams have evacuated more than 3000 people in Assam.
Bihar: Heavy rainfall in Bihar for the past few days has caused flood-like situation in low-lying areas and increased the water level of various rivers in several parts of the state. To deal with the severity of the situation, 19 NDRF teams have been deployed in Bihar viz.- Araria (02), Bettiah (01), Darbhanga (03), Didarganj (02), Gopalganj (01), Katihar (01), Madhubani (02), Motihari (01), Muzaffarpur (02), Sitamarhi (03) and Supaul (01). Today, NDRF team carried out rescue operations in Distt. Araria, Motihari, Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi & Supaul. Besides, NDRF rescuers are also assisting the state administration in distribution of relief materials. So far, NDRF teams have evacuated more than 3310 people to safer places in BIhar.
A 24X7, NDRF control room in Delhi is closely monitoring the situation round the clock and is in touch with other agencies for further deployment. DG NDRF is personally monitoring the situations.
