NDRF TEAMS ON HIGH ALERT IN FLOOD PRONE AREAS

89 NDRF teams have been deployed at various parts of the country to provide specialized response during ensuing monsoon season. Out of which, 45 teams are prepositioned in various flood-prone areas where rains and floods usually takes place during monsoon i.e. 12 team in Assam, 03 in Arunachal Pradesh, 07 in Bihar, 04 in Gujarat, 01 in Himachal Pradesh, 04 in J&K, 02 New Delhi, 02 in Punjab, 01 in Sikkim, 01 in Tripura, 01 in Uttar Pradesh, 04 in Uttarakhand, 03 in West Bengal, to be prepared to tackle possible floods and situation caused by heavy rains.
NDRF teams are self- contained and equipped with state-of-the-art disaster response equipment to deal with the emergencysituations. The teams are also equipped with modern communication gadgets for establishing communication during disaster.
NDRF rescuers are able to tackle all kinds of flood situations. In normal situation, the teams conduct community awareness program based on flood disaster management, school safety program & mock exercises in their respective areas, to sensitize and prepare them for floods which includes- preparation before flood, do’s & don’ts during flood, preparation of improvised rafts using local resources, snake bite management, pre-hospital treatments, safety measures to be taken during disaster like situation.
In this monsoon season NDRF teams have evacuated 13550 people to safer places, so far.
A 24X7, NDRF control room in Delhi closely monitor the situation and in touch with other agencies for further deployment.
