NDRF TEAMS DEPLOYED ON EASTERN COAST

As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the deep depression over Westcentrtal & adjoining south Bay of Bengal moved North-Northwestwards and intensified in to a Cyclonic storm Jawad by 3rd Dec. It is very likely to reach Westcentral Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh & South Odisha coasts by 4th Dec morning.
As a part of proactive measure, total 49 self-contained teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed for the coastal region of West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Andaman & Nicobar Island in collaboration with state authorities.
Out of 49 deployed teams, 18 teams have been deployed at the coastal districts of West Bengal, 16 teams have been deployed in state of Odisha. Besides, 11 teams are deployed at the coast of Andhra Pradesh, 02 teams in Tamil Nadu and 02 teams are deployed at Andaman & Nicobar Island. Apart from this, fully equipped 15 SAR Teams are kept on alert as backup plan within the states only, which are to be deployed as per evolving situation.
Deployed Teams are sensitizing people about the safety measures to be taken during & post cyclone. NDRF personnel also assisting the local administration in cyclone affected areas.
Director General, NDRF said that a close watch over the development of the situation is being kept and monitored by 24*7 HQ Control room. He added that prime task of NDRF before the landfall is to save the lives by evacuating people from the coastal areas and then to conduct restoration work. NDRF is in close touch with concerned authorities and working in coordination with the local administration & concerned stakeholders.
