Disasters often strike without warning and left series of devastation. Community capacity building refers to strengthening of skills, competencies and abilities of people and communities. NDRF since its inception has continuously engaged in community capacity building and public awareness programs, which includes training of students, volunteers, NCC cadets, NGOs and other stakeholders.

Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), under the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of School Education & Literacy, Government of India runs Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas functional in each district of the country as residential schools mostly located in rural areas and in remotest part of the country with the aim to provide opportunities to rural children with special talent or aptitude to progress at a faster pace by making good quality education. Being residential in nature, school children are vulnerable to the disasters, particularly to the earthquake which are located in highly seismic zones.

In order to sensitize the staff and children of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas as well as to impart disaster awareness training focused on “School Safety Programme”, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is signed between NDRF and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS). As per MoU, NDRF will organize Trainers of Training (ToTs) program to the Staffs to make them Trainer and induction courses to the teachers of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas. Besides, Force will also organize half day awareness training programme and demonstration pertaining to the school safety.

Signing such MoU with organizations will certainly help to mitigate the affects of disasters and help them in better preparedness to further make a disaster resilient India.
