MEDALS TO NDRF PERSONNEL’S ON THE OCCASION OF INDEPENDENCE DAY-2016

Six NDRF personnel have been awarded with the Police Medal,s on the occasion of Independence Day-2016. Sh. Surjeet Singh Guleria, DIG, NDRF has been awarded with President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in recognition to his self-less services. Sh. Satish Kumar Sastri, Second-in-Command, Sh. Mahasher Hussain, Assistant Commandant, Sh. S. Raghvendra, Inspector (Ministerial), Sh. Suresh Kumar Yadav, Inspector and Sh. Bhawani Singh Rathore, Sub Inspector have been conferred with Police Medal for Meritorious Service
Sh. S.S.Guleria, DIG, NDRF is a Direct Entry BSF cadre officer of 1987 batch emphatically discharged his duties in various appointments whether operational or administrative. He was selected for United Nation Peace Keeping Mission-Kosovo in 2001-02. He actively participated in various anti-militancy operations during peak of militancy when posted in BSF w.e.f. 2002-03, in Pulwama, Kashmir. He has been very instrumental in achieving the objectives & roles of the NDRF and contributed a lot in raising two Battalions of NDRF in Kolkata, West Bengal and Bihta, Patna, Bihar. With his visionary leadership qualities & enriched professional experience in the operational & administrative fields, Officer has successfully represented the Country in various foreign missions & training. In addition, Mr. Guleria led many HADR Operations across the country viz Cyclone-Phailin, J&K Urban Flood-2014, Cyclone Hudhud 2014 and Chennai flood-2015 and saved many precious lives of our National. In recognition of his outstanding service he was awarded with President’s Police Medal for Distinguished service on the occasion of Independence Day 2016.

Shri Satish Kumar Sastri joined Intelligence Bureau as ACIO-II (G) on 12th July, 1993 and served in Intelligence Bureau for a small stint at Ahmadabad. The officer joined BSF on 02.01.1995 as Assistant Commandant/DE. The officer started his professional career in the Border Security Force as Company Commander on Punjab border. Subsequently, the officer performed internal security duty in Kashmir during 1997 to 2000. The officer joined NDRF on 12-07-2010 having depth knowledge in the field of disaster response participated in many rescue operation viz. Assam Flood - 2012, Uttarakhand Flood - 2013 and Meghalaya Flood Rescue- 2014. In recognition of his outstanding service he was awarded with President’s Police Medal for Meritorious service on the occasion of Independence Day 2016.

Sh.Mahasher Hussain joined I.T.B.P. in 1988. After joining ITBP, he did his M.A. (History), B.Ed, M.sc and Ph.D. on the topic “Role of Armed Forces in Disaster Management in Uttarakhand in 2013. Mr. Hussain did excellent job during his posting in J&K and Chhattisgarh while serving in ITBP as well as during his deployment in Peace Keeping Mission (D.R. Congo). The officer did exceedingly well during his tenure in NDRF and led sincerely in various operations especially in Tsunami (Andaman Nicobar Island), Uttarakhand disaster, Kashmir flood and Nepal earthquake. In recognition of his outstanding service he was awarded with President’s Police Medal for Meritorious service on the occasion of Independence Day 2016. |

Sh. S. Raghavendra, Inspector, joined BSF as a direct entry Subordinate officer on 25.05.1988. He is a native of Bangalore, Karnataka. He has served in every remote corner of country. He has been specifically selected for deputation in NDRF and presently he is serving in HQ NDRF, New Delhi . In recognition of his outstanding service he has been awarded with President’s Police Medal for Meritorious service on the occasion of Independence Day 2016. | ![]() |

Sh. Suresh Kumar Yadav, Inspector native of Junjhune, Rajasthan, joined ITBP on 19 April 1994. He was deployed at various forward posts like Peer Panjal Valley, Duksam , J&K, Kinnaur reason of H.P. State along China Border. He also posted at Afghanistan w.e.f. March 2006 to July 2008. He was selected for deputation in NDRF and has been serving in 7th BN NDRF, Bathinda (PB) and p[articipated in many search and rescue operations across the countrty . In recognition of his excellent service, he has been decorated with President’s Police Medal for Meritorious service during Independence Day 2016. | ![]() |

Sh. Bhawani Singh Rathore , Sub Inspector is a native of Rajasthan, joined Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on 25 June 1985. After completion of basic training, he served in various hard and terrorist prone areas in all over India i.e Punjab, Arunachal Pradesh, Lucknow, Faizabad(U.P),Assam, Neemach-CTC/RTC (MP), Srinagar and Maharashtra. During his tenure in NDRF, he participated in various flood rescue operations like Cyclone -Healen in Andhra Pradesh , collapsed of five storey under construction building at Goa on 2014 and so on. In recognition of his outstanding service he has been awarded with President’s Police Medal for Meritorious service on the occasion of Independence Day 2016. | ![]() |
