FLOOD RESCUE AND EVACUATION OPERATION BY NDRF AT SHIDARTHNAGAR, U.P

Dated 27th July, 2016 Time 1800 Hrs

In the intervening night of 26 & 27 July 2016 unprecedented flash flood submerged several villages of Shidarthnagar Distt, U.P. This unexpected flood like havoc dangered the lives of locals. On the unexpected development of flood like situation, Comdt 11 Bn, Varanasi reacted promptly and moved the team during night itself.

One flood rescue team of NDRF comprising responders equipped with boats, latest gadgets, deep diving equipment and life jackets immediately rushed to incident site at 270130 hrs and started rescue operation at 270230 hrs. Despite bad weather and odd conditions, the responders of NDRF carried out non-stop rescue work during whole night to rescue the marooned people. Due to quick and timely response of NDRF under supervision of Sh. O.P. Singh, DG, NDRF who personally monitored the ongoing rescue operation, NDRF saved 165 precious human lives till morning.

During this rescue operation, one person namely Bis Mohan Puri S/O Shri Narayan Puri Age-26, R/O Howalora was bitten by a snake. So as to save his life, he was immediately given pre-hospital treatment by NDRF rescuers and further rushed to nearest hospital.

The flash floods was caused due release of large amount of water from Nepal, the water level in Banganga River increased upto 6-7 feet and submerged several villages of Tehsil- Shoratgarh, district Shidarthnagar, U.P. The flooded water entered in the houses in the areas viz. Jagdiva, Ghannore, Jharwa, Arri, Kepsewa, Dablawa, Charigawa, Dhanora. The surprised flash flood left many people marooned.

The rescue operation is still in progress. So far 280 personnel (127 male , 81 female & 72 children) have been evacuated to safer place.
