DR. HARSH VARDHAN, HON’BLE MINISTER, MINISTRY OF HEALTH & FAMILY WELFARE INAUGURATED 10-BEDDED MAKE SHIFT HOSPITAL AT NDRF 8TH BATTALION CENTRE, GHAZIABAD

New Delhi, August 22, 2020, Time : 1500 Hrs

Today, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India, inaugurated a 10-bedded make-shift Hospital in presence of Sh. S. N. Pardhan, DG, NDRF, Dr. Shekhar C. Mande, DG, CSIR and various senior officials from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, CSIR, CBRI and NDRF at NDRF base, Kamla Nehru Nagar, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

This make-shift hospital has been set up by NDRF in collaboration with CSIR constituent laboratory namely CSIR-CBRI (Central Building Research Institute), Roorkee. The makeshift hospital is designed for the patient to provide a primary health facility with safety, security and a comfortable living environment. This fully Air Conditioned pre-fabricated makeshift hospital is equipped with various modern facilities like Paramonitors, Defibrillators and ECG Machines. The Hospital is planned to serve the purpose for the disaster stage including for use in long pandemic or emergency situations.

Inaugurating this first of its kind hospital, Hon’ble Minister said that COVID-19 pandemic which originated from China has thrown a huge challenge to the people across the world. India took extremely serious steps from the beginning and developed an effective strategy to fight against this deadly virus from 08th January, 2020. He appreciated all the departments of the Government of India for their contribution in effective management of this pandemic.

Hon’ble Minister added that some eminent scientists of the world predicted that there would be around 300 million cases till July-August, 2020 and 5-6 million people would die due to this deadly virus in India. However, even after 8 months, India has not crossed the 03 million mark, out of which 02 million patients have fully recovered. India has the highest recovery rate (around 75%) as well as lowest mortality rate (1.87 %) across the world. Simultaneously, we developed and scaled up diagnostic and remarkably strengthened our testing capacity. Today India has developed 1511 labs and over 15,000 dedicated COVID hospitals across the country. Yesterday, India conducted over one million tests.

Applauding the efforts of NDRF, Hon’ble Minister said that NDRF has been striving hard to serve the countrymen with full zeal and commitment. He congratulated NDRF for their tremendous contribution in COVID pandemic management as well as disaster management. He said that NDRF will soon get recognition from the United Nations and be able to respond across the world under the UN Umbrella.

He applauded all the scientists of Deptt. of Biotechnology, Deptt. of Science & Technology, ICMR, Researchers, Frontline Workers (Doctors, Police, Army, NDRF) for their tremendous support & contribution toward fighting against this deadly virus.

Welcoming the august gathering, Director General, NDRF, Satya Narayan Pradhan highlighted the efforts of NDRF in COVID-19 pandemic management and disaster management. DG, NDRF also felt the need of establishment of such make-shift hospitals in other NDRF battalions in collaboration of CSIR. DG further said that NDRF is planning to procure all its disaster response equipment/tools from DRDO & CSIR to promote the Make in India campaign. DG, NDRF also thanked DG, CSIR CBRI and their teams for providing tremendous support in development of this makeshift hospital for NDRF.
