BUILDING COLLAPSES IN MUMBAI: NDRF STARTS RESCUE OPERATION

Dated 31st August, 2017 Time: 1500 Hrs

A five-storeyed residential building located at Pakmodia Street in Bhendi Bazaar area near JJ flyover collapsed early today. Many are scare trapped inside. As per report, the residential building was undergoing some renovation work and got collapsed at 0855 hrs .

On intimation, 03 Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR) teams of NDRF rushed to the site from its Regional Response Centre (RRC), Mumbai, Maharashtra and joined search & rescue operation. Since this was peak traffic time, traffic police was requested to provide a green corridor, so that the team could reach the incident site at the earliest. NDRF teams are fully equipped with latest disaster management equipment like chipping hammer, victim locating cameras, cutters etc. Canine which are integral parts of NDRF CSSR team have also been pressed in to action to search the trapped victim.

NDRF rescuers are trying their best to trace the victims trapped under the heap of debris. Rescuers are cutting the concrete slabs and clearing the rubbles to confirm the existence of survivors. So far, rescue teams have evacuated 13 trapped victims and retrieved 18 dead bodies under the rubles. Operation is still in progress.

NDRF has pre-positioned its 10 teams in Mumbai where extremely heavy rains for last couple of days throwing normal life out of gear.

Director General, NDRF is closely monitoring the situation and in close touch with State administration.
