Flood in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh

In the month of August-2016 eastern/central Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas received heavy rainfall due to southwest Monsoon. In the heavy rainfall, water level of major rivers including the Ganga and Yamuna in UP have crossed the danger level. Tributaries of Yamuna River like Ken, Betwa, Chambal, Dhasan which flows in Madhya Pradesh poured enormous amount of water in Yamuna due to heavy to very heavy rainfall occurred in Madhya Pradesh and raised the water level in river Yamuna above the danger level. The Ganga River was flowing above the danger level in Allahabad, Varanasi, Mirzapur, Ghazipur and Ballia districts of eastern UP and submerged the nearby areas in water and many villages marooned.

In view of above and impending flood situation, the NDRF teams had been prepositioned in flood affected areas as per the plan of pre-monsoon deployment at Allahabad, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Bhopal and Lucknow. When situation of flood become worsen, additional teams, as per the requirement were also deployed in various districts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh for rescue and relief operations. A total of 23 teams of NDRF were deployed in the various locations i.e. Allahabad, Chitrakoot, Banda, Varanasi, Ghazipur, Mirzapur, Siddharth Nagar, Balrampur, Gonda, Balia, Bhopal, Vidisha, Pilibhit in the UP and MP.

In this flood and rescue operations a total of 20,737 persons were rescued from flood affected area of UP and MP by the NDRF teams. During the relief and rescue operations a total of 1,00,010 Nos. of food packets were also distributed by the NDRF. Medical teams of NDRF provided medical assistance to 8255 patients by establishing medical camps and water ambulance in different locations in flood areas. During the night operation a heart stroke patient was saved by NDRF and rushed to the nearest hospital from a marooned village Chhitupur Varanasi UP.

Besides human rescue and relief operation NDRF rescuers also focused on affected domestic animal and rescued approx 691 animals flowing in flood and also 325 Cattles were provided medical treatment.

During the night rescue operations by NDRF team at Samne Ghat two Divyang persons were rescued from different places when their lives were in danger. One spine injury patient namely Shivapujan aged 85 years evacuated safely by MFR team from Kashipuram near Maruti Nagar Varanasi UP. A pregnant lady was rescued from a village far from road head trapped in flood by water ambulance and admitted to nearest hospital by NDRF in Banda UP.
