In the month of June, 2020 cyclonic storm ‘Nisarga’ developed over east-central and adjoining the southeast Arabian Sea, affected the coastal districts of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Union Territory of Daman & Diu and Dadar & Nagar Haveli. With the issue of cyclone warning, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), as a part of proactive measures, mobilized adequate resources & self-contained rescue & relief teams in the likely affected areas of these States/UT’s. The NDRF teams were equipped with Wireless Sets, Satellite Phone, Cutters, and various equipment & tools. The NDRF teams took all precautions to ensure zero casualties, including relocating people from unsafe localities to safer locations.
20 NDRF teams were deployed in the coastal areas of Maharashtra viz. Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Thane, Palghar, Raigad and Mumbai. During the deployment NDRF teams assisted local administration in bringing the normalcy in the affected areas. NDRF teams worked 24x7 with other agencies and stakeholders to restore the normalcy. NDRF teams removed 618 uprooted trees, 94 Electric Poles and cleared 237 Kms of road.
16 NDRF teams were deployed at coastal areas of Gujarat viz. Gandhi Nagar, Bharuch, Amreli, Gir Somnath, Anand, Bhav Nagar, Kheda, Navsari, Surat and Valsad. 02 teams each were deployed in Daman (Daman & Diu) and Silvassa (Dadar & Nagar Haveli) amid of cyclonic storm Nisarga. During the deployment, NDRF teams provided each & every support to the local administration and left no stone unturned to bring the normalcy.
