During the month of May, 2019, in the wake of cyclonic storm “FANI” 80 rescue & relief teams of NDRF where pre-positioned /deployed in affected areas of the vulnerable states viz. Odisha (50 teams) from 01.05.2019 to 28.05.2019, West Bengal, (09 teams) from 01.05.2019 to 05.05.2019, Andhra Pradesh (12 teams) from 01.05.2019 to 04.05.2019, 01 team each at Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland & Meghalaya from 01.05.2019 to 04.05.2019 and 02 teams each at Jharkhand, Kerala and Tamil Nadu from 01.05.2019 to 05.05.2019.
All available resources that include response equipment, communication equipment and relief materials were used during operation. Teams carried out clearing the roads/tracks by cutting/removing of damaged/uprooted trees in affected areas of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha & West Bengal. In the state of Odisha, 50 NDRF teams assisted the state authorities in mass evacuation of more than 14.7 lakh people to safer places before the landfall.
After evacuation work, NDRF teams were engaged in restoration of essential services on war footing in collaboration with other state agencies to restore the power supply, communication set up and for road clearance by removing the fallen and uprooted trees and poles, debris that is strewn on the roads. Teams removed 19543 Nos trees, removed 2497 Nos Electric Poles, Electric Transformer-02 Nos, cleared 4347.5 Kms Road and provided PHT to 1268 persons. Teams also conducted 25 Nos. medical camps in which 2156 patients treated in Odisha. Teams also removed 271 trees, 11 electric poles and cleared 423 Kms of road in Andhra Pradesh. In addition, teams were also assisted the local authorities in distribution of relief materials.
