On 05.10.2016 at 1420 hrs, a five story under construction residential building near Ecospace, Bellandur in HSR Layout police station area of Bengaluru was collapsed and the entire building was tipped over into vacant site adjacent it. In which few construction worker were feared trapped under the rubble.
On receipt of information from local administration, one Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR) team of NDRF comprising of 26 rescuers immediately rushed to the spot from its Regional Response Centre (RRC), Bengaluru, Karnataka at 1450 hrs. The CSSR team of NDRF consisting of trained responders and equipped with state-of-the-art CSSR equipment and tools started search and rescue operation taking due care and diligence as victims were trapped under the rubble.
Canine which is an integral part of NDRF search and rescue team was used to locate the victims followed by Technical search. At 1520 hrs, a trapped victim was located by rescue team under slabs of concrete. Immediately liquid was supplied to the survivor through a pipe. Thereafter opening was made by cutting the RCC slabs and access to the victim. Due to prompt and effective response of NDRF, the victim Sumer, aged-25 year, a resident of West Bengal was pulled out around 1720 hrs. The victim was given some oral hydrant and rushed to the hospital for further treatment. On same day at 2025 hrs one more live victim was rescued from the debris. On 06.10.2016 at 0640hrs, 2120 hrs and 2155 hrs, NDRF team retrieved 03 dead bodies and also retrieved one more dead body on 07.10.2016 at 1245 hrs. In total NDRF saved 02 precious human lives and retrieved 04 dead bodies.
