On 26.05.2016 at around 1130 hrs,a mishap occurred when boiler/cylinders exploded, leading to a fire in the chemical manufacturing unit of Acharya Chmicals Herbert Brown Pharmaceuticals& Research Laboratories at W-256, 257, MIDC phase-II, Shivaji Udyog Nagar, Dombivili (East), Thane, Mahrashtra. The impact of the blast was so severe that it was felt up to an area of 4 to 5 kilometers and shattered the glass of several buildings and cars.

On the request of the DDMO, District Thane (MH), 02 teams of 5th Bn. (one team from Mumbai location and another from BHQ, Sudumbare, Pune) comprising 81 rescuers along with equipment related to CBRN, CSSR & MFR, mobilized to the incident site at 1230 hrs on 26.05.2016. NDRF Teams conducted SAR operation from 26.05.2016 to 28.05.2016.

Team retrieved 05 dead bodies and team assisted to shift 23 Barrel of Propargyl Alcohal, 11 Barrel of Thyonil chloride, 09 Barrel of Zyline and04 Can of HCL to MIDC Thaloja, Safety Management Unit, Navi Mumbai for the further safely disposal of the Chemical.
