BOAT CAPSIZE IN WEST BENGAL- MAY. 2016

On 15th May, 2016, at 1028 hrs information received from Disaster Management Section, District Burdwan, Government of West Bengal regarding a incident of boat capsize during the night of 14th May,2016 at Kalna Ghat, Kalna Burdwan, West Bengal resultantly approx 20 persons drowned in the tributary of Ganga i.e. Hooghly river. Immediately one NDRF team under command of Sh. Nishith Upadhyay, Second-In-Command, 02 Bn NDRF, Haringhata (WB) consisting of 43 rescuers ( including deep divers ) along with necessary equipment i.e. Inflatable Boats, deep diving sets, life buoy, life jackets etc was rushed to the incident site and reached there at 1:30 pm. Due to current in the river and already past approx 3-4 hours, victims of boat capsize have scattered around the incident spot. Hence deep divers started search and rescue operation very meticulously for two days ( w.e.f. 15th to 16th May, 2016) and succeeded to retrieved 13 dead bodies ( Female 06 & Male 07).
