BUILDING COLLAPSE, BHIWANDI, MAHARASHTRA
On 21st September, 2020, a three storey residential building named Gilani Building at Dhamankar Naka, Bhiwandi, District-Thane, Maharashtra collapsed which left several people trapped underneath. On intimation, NDRF immediately mobilized its 01 CSSR team from its nearest base at Mumbai, Maharashtra for prompt response. After initial assessment, two more teams mobilised i.e. second team from RRC Mumbai and third team from BHQ Pune to augment the operation. NDRF teams joined the rescue operations with other agencies. As the victims were trapped inside the debris, due care and diligence were taken by the response agencies. NDRF responders used high-tech equipment & Canine to locate the trapped victims. NDRF teams relentlessly conducted Search and Rescue operations for 78 hrs i.e. from 0600 hrs on 21.09.2020 to 1125 hrs on 24.09.2020. During the operations, NDRF teams rescued 09 persons alive, retrieved 31 dead bodies and also found Rs. 35 lakhs cash. All agencies reused 20 persons alive and retrieved 41 dead bodies (Total-61) during the operation. After accounting for all the victims, the operation was called off at 241125 hrs by the SDM Bhiwandi.
