FLAG OFF CEREMONY OF NDRF’ 02nd MOUNTAINEERING EXPEDITION - ‘VIJAY’ TO MT. MANIRANG

Today, Sh. Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Home Secretary, GoI flagged-off the Second Mountaineering Expedition of NDRF-‘Vijay’ to Mount Manirang (21,625 ft.) at Adarsh auditorium, Delhi Police Headquarter, in a well-attended event.
2. Mt. Manirang is located at the border of Kinnaur and Spiti districts of Himachal Pradesh. The Manirang Pass is located close to the peak and was one of the early trade routes between these two districts.
3. The 37 membered Mountaineering team is being led by Sh. Nitesh Sharma, Deputy Commandant of NDRF. The expedition team include 02 Officers, 06 Subordinate Officers, 14 Other Ranks and 15 supporting staff. The expedition team is expected to make the attempt to scale the peak on 17th June, 2024.
4. Adventure training creates a sense of fearlessness, boldness and the ability to take risks, besides enhancing the qualities of partnership and capacity to sustain prolonged adverse weather conditions. Mountaineering is an ultimate adventure activity in which participants push their limits and achieve their goals by exposing themselves to the highest order of mental and physical hardship, which includes exposure to low atmospheric pressure, subzero temperature, snow fall and many other harsh climatic conditions. Such training activities enhance the essential qualities of rescuers to perform rescue operations in remote and high altitude areas.
5. The aim of this 02nd Expedition of NDRF besides enabling the rescuers to conduct rescue operations in high altitude areas is also to pay attention to environment and ecological aspects of mountains as well as to familiarize the troops with terrain in the area of responsibility. Apart from this the expedition aims to increase the confidence, coordination, determination, willpower, skill and maximum potential among the rescuers in the field of mountain rescue operations.
6. While addressing the gathering, Sh. Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Home Secretary applauded NDRF for doing a commendable job in saving lives by demonstrating highest levels of professionalism, determination and hard work in all types of disaster scenarios. Further, He praised the exemplary work done by NDRF during the ‘Silkyara’ Tunnel Incident, Balasore Train accident, Landslide at Mizoram and Manipur flood, and many other such disasters. Hon’ble chief guest also conveyed best wishes to the NDRF Mountaineers team for successful expedition.
7. Welcoming all present, Sh. Piyush Anand, DG NDRF recalled the achievements made by the NDRF over the years and conveyed best wishes to mountaineering team. During the occasion, Members and Head of Department NDMA, Director IB, Director CBI, Commissioner Police Delhi, DGs of CAPFs, Members of NDRF Mountaineering team and officers and Jawans of NDRF were also present.
