On 25th April 2015, Nepal was rocked by a devastating Earthquake of magnitude 7.8, resulting in massive loss of lives and infrastructure and raised the fear of a humanitarian disaster across the Himalayan nation. The tremors were also felt across the areas in whole of Northern India. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) deployed its 16 USAR teams (03 teams of 08Bn, 04 teams of 07 Bn,03 teams of 08 Bn, 03 teams of 02 Bnand 03 teams of 09 Bn) comprising of more than 700 rescuers along with 18 dogs trained in USAR operation with latest gadgets at various earthquake hit areas of Nepal on the directions of the Government of India. |

The teams fanned out to different areas in the Kathmandu district and commenced USAR operations at once at Balkhu, Kopan,Gongbhu, Tanhu Hospital,Balaju, Basundra, Gongbhu, Maharjganj, Brijeshwari, Shobha Bhagawati Bridge, KV Army area, Tilganga,Sondara, White Gumba, Shankhu, PM residence area, Balaju bypass &Kathmandu to assist the Nepalese Authority in “Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief” (HADR) work. Under the able leadership of Sh. O.P Singh, DG, NDRF who personally supervised the operation being in Nepal, NDRF rescued 11 injured persons and retrieved 133 dead bodies from the rubble. The teams also organized 06 medical camps and attended to 1219 persons. NDRF was instrumental in assisting the MHA and NDMA to dispatch 1176.571 tonnes of relief materials donated by various agencies to quake affected people of Nepal via rail/ road / Air route.. Apart from saving precious lives and helping in ameliorating the human sufferings, NDRF teams recovered the valuable items such as Gold ornaments Currency etc. and further handed over them to Nepal Authorities.

(ii) Bihar & Uttar Pradesh (India) :The Nepal earthquake also affected northern part of India, resulting collapse of building and communication setup.After getting direction from MHA, NDRF mobilized its 04 teams on 25.04.2015 to Supaul, Motihari, Darhbanga & Gopalganj in Bihar & 01 team at Gorakhpur in UP . Further on 26.04.2015 team deployed at Motihari further divert to Raxaul (Bihar). Teams deployed in Bihar conducted rescue operation and shifted 180 patients from damaged building/ wards to safe building in Darbhanga Medical College and Hospitals. Team deployed at Raxual, East Champaran helped State Govt. in shifting of 409 pers coming from Nepal to Relief Centre at Hajarimal High School, Raxual Outcomes :-
