During monsoon the incessant rainfall across the region affected most of the districts of the state viz. Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur. Bridges and roads, which were vulnerable to floods had affected the normal life of the populace. On 09.08.2019, incessant rainfall triggered major landslides at Ipadi, Puttupala, Wayanad and Bhudanam, Neelambur, Mallapuram in Kerala, which trapped several people under the debris. 05 teams of NDRF, immediately rushed to the incident site at Ipadi, Puttupala, Wayanad and 04 teams to Bhudanam, Neelambur, Mallapuram. Heavy rains and debris on the way obstructed the movement of NDRF teams. Despite all odds, NDRF teams managed to reach both the incident site and conducted search operation w.e.f. 09.08.2019 to 25.08.2019 at Ipadi, Puttupala, Wayanad and retrieved 13 dead bodies. While the teams conducted operation from 09.08.2019 to 28.08.2019 at Bhudanam, Neelambur, Mallapurama and retrieved 48 dead bodies.
