RESCUE & RELIEF WORK BY NDRF IN UTTARAKHAND

Heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand has caused flooding in many districts of the state. For rescue and relief work, 17 self-contained teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in Uttarakhand in consultation with State authorities. Out of these, Six teams are deployed in Udham Singh Nagar district while two teams each are placed in Uttarkashi & Chamoli and one team each is deployed at Dehradun, Pithoragarh, Champawat and Haridwar. Besides, two full team and one sub-team are deployed in Nainital while one sub- team is placed at Almora.

Deployed teams are engaged in rescue and relief work and providing helps to the affected people in coordination with the local authorities. So far, NDRF rescuers have evacuated more than 1300 stranded people from Udham Singh Nagar, Nanital and distributing relief material in flood affected areas of Uttarakhand.

09 Teams are deployed in West Bengal in view of continuous rainfall and rescuers have evacuated about 70 persons from low lying areas of District Jalpaiguri. Moreover, 07 teams are also deployed in Uttar Pradesh including Lakhimpur, Sitapur, Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Bahraich districts as flood threat has arises due to discharge of water from Uttarakhand and Nepal while 12 NDRF teams are deployed in Kerala for prevailing flood situation in the State.

For immediate response during floods in any part of the country total 107 NDRF teams are deployed/pre-positioned across various parts of country to save precious lives.

Director General, NDRF Shri Satya Narayan Pradhan is closely monitoring the situation and is in close touch with concerned authorities/stakeholders.
