NDRF TEAMS DEPLOYED ON EASTERN COAST

As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a low pressure area is formed over Eastcentral Bay of Bengal which likely to intensify in to a Cyclonic storm YAAS by 24th May and further into a very severe cyclonic storm during the subsequent 24 hours. It is very likely to cross West Bengal and adjoining Odisha and Bangladesh coast around evening of 26 May.
As a part of proactive measures, total 85 self-contained teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are earmarked for the coastal region of West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Andaman and Nicobar island in collaboration with state authorities.
Of the 85 committed teams, 32 teams have been deployed at the coastal districts of West Bengal While 28 teams have been placed in state of Odisha. Besides, 03 teams are deployed at the cost of Andhra Pradesh, 02 teams in Tamil Nadu and 04 teams are being deployed at Andaman and Nicobar Island. Apart from this, fully equipped 16 SAR Teams are kept on alert as backup plan within the state only, to be deployed as requirement arises.
In the backdrop of the severity of the situation, 10 teams are being airlifted to Odisha and 03 teams to Andaman and Nicobar island.
Deployed Teams are doing recce of the areas and sensitizing people about the safety's measures to be taken during & post cyclone. NDRF personnel also assisting the local administration in evacuation of the people from cyclone affected areas to safer place.
Director General, NDRF said that a close watch over the development of the situation is being kept and monitored by 24*7 HQ Control room. He added that prime task of NDRF before the landfall is to save the lives by evacuating people from the coastal areas and then to conduct restoration work. All deployed teams are in close touch with concerned authorities and working in coordination with the local administration.
