NDRF TEAMS DEPLOYED FOR CYCLONE ‘TAUKTAE’

With the early warning of TAUKTAE cyclone for Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu & Kerala, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), as a part of proactive measures, has mobilized adequate resources & self-contained rescue & relief teams in the likely affected coastal districts of these states. The NDRF teams are equipped with Wireless Sets, Satellite Phones, QDA, Cutters and various other advance equipment & tools needed for post cyclone operation. The NDRF teams are keeping close watch over the development of the situation and being monitored by at 24*7 HQ Control room. Teams are in close coordination with the local administration.
As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the depression over Eastcentral and adjoining South East Arabian sea has moved North-northwestwards and is very much likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm ‘Tauktae’ during the next 03 hours and very severe cyclonic storm during the subsequent 12 hours. It is very likely to cross Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Naliya around afternoon/evening of 18th May.
A total of 48 NDRF teams are deployed at the likely affected coastal areas after consultation with state authorities. 13 NDRF teams have been airlifted from Bhubaneshwar and Bhatinda base to Gujarat. Out of these 30 teams have been deployed at coastal districts of Gujarat including 02 teams each at Girsomnath, Amreli, Porbandar, Dwarka, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Kucch, Morbi, Surat, Gandhinagar, Valsad while 01 team each at distt- Bhavnagar, Navsari, Bharuch & Junagarh.
Besides, 09 teams have been deployed at coastal districts of Kerala and 05 teams at Tamil Nadu. Moreover, to tackle the situation
04 teams also have been deployed in likely affected area in Maharashtra, 03 NDRF teams in Karnatka and 01 Team in Goa.
In the backdrop of the severity of the situation, 20 NDRF teams are kept on alert as backup plan, to be deployed as requirement arises. In addition to this fully equipped 32 SAR Teams are also kept in reserve if situation demands. In view of the current COVID-19 scenario, NDRF teams are equipped with appropriate PPE/special kits and strictly following COVID-19 guidlines.
Director General, NDRF Shri. Satya Narayan Pradhan is personally monitoring the situation and all efforts are being made in close collaboration with state authorities to ensure zero casualty and minimum damage to life and property. NDRF Hqr is in close touch
with various authorities/stakeholders.
