NDRF Celebrates the Successful Completion of its 3rd Mountaineering Expedition 'Shaurya' on Mt. Kedar Dome

New Delhi, March 2025: The National Disaster Response Force marked another milestone in its journey of successful completion of its 3rd Mountaineering Expedition – “Shaurya” to Mt. Kedar Dome (22411 ft.) in Uttarakhand. A ceremonial Flag-In event was organized to welcome the team back after scaling the Mt. Kedar Dome.

The 44-member expedition team was flagged off by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami on 21st June 2025 from Dehradun. Demonstrating physical resilience and mountaineering skill, the team conquered the challenging peak on 7 June 2025. The expedition traversed a challenging route through Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Gangotri, Chidbhasa, Bhojbhasa, Tapovan and the Kirti Glacier before making the final ascent.

The successful completion of the expedition-“Shaurya” is a testament to NDRF's unwavering dedication towards building high-altitude operational capabilities and fostering mental and physical toughness among its rescuers. These expeditions are not only platforms for testing endurance but also critical training initiatives that enhance the preparedness for rescue operations in mountainous and glacial terrains.

The Union Home Secretary applauded the team’s determination and professionalism. He appreciated NDRF’s increasing role in high-altitude operations and their contribution towards making India disaster resilient. He also lauded the commendable work done by NDRF during various disasters, especially highlighting the success of Operation Brahma. Shri Govind Mohan further emphasized on the importance of undertaking such joint mountaineering expeditions jointly with the State Disaster Response Forces of respective state when such expeditions are conducted to build collective capability. He stressed that after every major disaster response, NDRF should conduct a thorough self-assessment to draw lessons and address operational gaps, if any.

This is the third mountaineering expedition by NDRF team in series’ first being “SAAHAS” on Mt. Bhagirathi-II, conducted in 2023 and the second being “VIJAY” on Mt. Manirang, conducted in 2024 and forms part of a broader NDRF initiative to build a pool of expert rescuers adept at operating in extreme and remote terrains.

Addressing the gathering Shri Piyush Anand, Director General, NDRF highlighted the purpose behind this expedition. He emphasized the commitment to make NDRF better prepared in mountain rescue capabilities and prepare the rescuers with better physical and mental strength for operating in high-altitude disaster scenarios.

The event was witnessed by senior officials from different organizations, NDRF officers and rescuers and school students.
