HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE AND FLOOD RESCUE OPERATION BY NDRF

Mumbai and its coastal districts of konkan, Maharashtra are facing heavy rainfall since last few days, leading to flooding at several places resulting in disruption of the normal life. IMD has forecast widespread rainfall during the next 24 hrs in Maharashtra.

In response to the situation, 18 self-contained NDRF teams have been deployed in the affected districts of Maharashtra including Mumbai, Ratnagiri, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Satara, Sangli, Sindhudurg, Nagpur and Kolhapur for rescue and relief work after consultation with state administration. To supplement the deployment, teams have also been kept on high alert at NDRF Bn Pune. Besides, to meet the requirements, 08 additional NDRF teams have been airlifted from Odisha base which are being deployed in Maharashtra.

Rescuers of the teams are putting best efforts to provide immediate assistance to the needy in flood rescue operations. Rescue & relief operations are still in progress. In an incident, due to heavy rain in the region, a landslide occurred in Raigad district in which reportedly 36 people have died. 01 NDRF team is undertaking rescue efforts at the site of incident and one additional team has been attempted to be airlifted from Kurla to undertake the rescue operations at Raigad but could not land so far due to bad weather conditions.

The Force is constantly tracking the Metrological Department (IMD’s) weather forecast and Centre Water Commission (CWC’s) report and acting accordingly. The NDRF commanders at the field are in touch with respective state authorities to render all possible assistance.

DG NDRF, Shri S.N. Pradhan is personally monitoring operations. A 24X7, NDRF control room in Delhi is also functioning round the clock to keep watch over the situation.
