Operation Sagarbandu – Sri Lanka (2025)
In response to the emergency situation in Sri Lanka, the Government of India directed the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to undertake Operation Sagarbandu. The operation was carried out from 29th November 2025 to 5th December 2025 as part of India's commitment to providing humanitarian assistance and disaster response to neighbouring countries.
Under the operation, 02 Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Teams comprising highly trained rescuers equipped with specialized search, rescue, and life-saving equipment were deployed to support the rescue and relief efforts in the affected areas.
During the operation, the NDRF teams successfully rescued trapped survivors, evacuated vulnerable residents to safer locations, rescued stranded livestock, and distributed relief materials to the affected population. The operation demonstrated India's rapid response capability and humanitarian commitment under its "Neighbourhood First" policy.
