Myanmar Earthquake 2025: Operation Bramha
On 28th March 2025, Myanmar was struck by a powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.7, followed by a significant aftershock of magnitude 6.4 within minutes. The twin seismic events occurred at 11:50:52 hrs and 12:02:07 hrs respectively, causing widespread devastation, especially in the Mandalay Province.
On the direction of the Government of India, NDRF launched Operation Bramha and deployed 01 USAR team comprising 80 trained rescuers, 04 SAR dogs, and 01 modified vehicle equipped with the latest life-saving and detection tools to Mandalay for Search and Rescue operations.
The NDRF team operated in Mandalay City, retrieving 67 dead bodies from collapsed structures. In addition to SAR efforts, the team organized medical camps and provided medical assistance to 227 affected persons, demonstrating India's commitment to humanitarian response in the region.
Alongside on-ground rescue operations, India extended further support by dispatching relief materials through NDRR and allied agencies to Myanmar. This included critical aid items to help the affected population cope with the aftermath of the earthquake.
