National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) celebrated its 18th Raising Day today with great zeal and enthusiasm. Hon’ble Minister of State for Home Affairs Shri Nityanand Rai graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. NDRF was raised on 19th Jan 2006 as the main disaster response Force of the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Nityanand Rai appreciated the commitment shown by the Force in disaster response. Hon’ble Minister commended NDRF for undertaking challenging operations in saving lives by demonstrating the highest level of professionalism, determination and hard work under duress. He affirmed that Govt. of India is deeply concerned about disaster management and its commitment to provide all possible support to the Force. He also highlighted NDRF’s herculean efforts in responding to various challenging disasters and training various stakeholders to help them in performing their role as first responders.

Hon’ble Minister also talked about the ten point agenda on Disaster Risk Reduction given by Hon’ble Prime Minister and said that citizens must try to adopt the directives as first responders.

In his address, Shri Nityanand Rai recalled the martyrdom of NDRF personnel and stated that the country will always remain indebted to the Martyrs who have made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.

Welcoming all the esteemed guests, Director General, NDRF, Shri Atul Karwal, gave an account of the significant achievements of the Force in 2022 and the challenges ahead.

Hon’ble Chief Guest conferred the 20 Force personnel with President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, Police Medal for Meritorious Service, Union Home Minister’s special operations Medal and Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Police Training.

After the inaugural session, an academic session on ‘Disaster Rescue in Mountains’ was conducted with the experts from the field as panelists. An exhibition of NDRF equipment was also displayed on the occasion.
