CYCLONIC STORM AMPHAN: NDRF DEPLOYS ITS TEAMS IN ODISHA AND BENGAL

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed its 39 self-contained rescue & relief teams in the coastal areas of West Bengal & Odisha in view of Cyclonic Storm ‘Amphan’. The NDRF teams are relentlessly engaged with the local administration in bringing normalcy & evacuating people to safer places. NDRF teams are equipped with Wireless Sets, Satellite Phone, Cutters and various equipment & tools. All teams are working in close coordination with the local administration.
As many as 20 NDRF teams are deployed in the coastal areas of Odisha. 01 team each has been deployed in Mayurbhanj & Jajpur, 04 teams each have been deployed at Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada & Bhadrak whereas 06 teams have been deployed at Balasore. Besides, additional teams are kept as a reserve at NDRF Base Mundali, Odisha. NDRF teams assisted local administration in the safe evacuation of over 1.58 lakh people to safer places, till the last report came in.
19 NDRF teams have been deployed at coastal areas of West Bengal. 01 team each has been deployed at Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), Kolkata, Nandigram, Kontai-1 Block & Digha, (East Medinapore), Arambagh (Hooghly), Uluberia & Domzur (Howrah), Sandeshkhali, Hasnabad & Hingalganj (24 Pargana, North), Pathar Pratima, Naamkhana, Gosaba, Kakdweep & Sagar Island (24 Pargana, South) and 02 teams at Rajarhat. Besides, 02 additional teams (01 each at Battalion HQ Haringhata, West Bengal & Regional Response Centre, Siliguri) are kept as a reserve and shall be mobilized as per the requirement. NDRF teams assisted the local administration in the safe evacuation of more than 05 lakh people to safer places, till now.
Director General, NDRF Sh. Satya Narayan Pradhan is closely monitoring the situation round the clock and is in close touch with various authorities/stakeholders.
