TRAIN DERAILMENT AT DO-MUHANI, MAYNAGURI, ALIPURDWAR, WEST BENGAL 2022

On 13.01.2022 at about 1700 hrs, Train No. 15633, Bikaner-Guwahati Express de-railed between New Maynaguri and New Domohani Railway station under NF Railway, Alipurduar division, district Jalpaiguri (WB). The train was running from Bikaner (Rajasthan) to Guwahati (Assam) and the train derailed near Domohani Railway station. During the accident 12 coaches had been derailed and four of the compartments were mangled. One coach perched to another coach due to the sudden impact, partially mangled coaches i.e. S5 & S6 perched atop another due to the impact, while a few coaches toppled from the track. Several of the passengers were found lying on the both side of the track, while other were found stock inside a mangled coach while a few coaches had been toppled from the track. On receipt of information, 02 Teams of 2nd Bn and 01 Medical Officer left RRC Siliguri for rescue operation along with essential equipment’s & all cutting/supporting accessories Both teams have simultaneously carried out rescue ops using Oxy fuel cutters, RR Saw etc. Teams managed to enter the mangled coaches No. S6 & S10 by making passage. Rescue and evacuation operation was carried out by multiple rescue agencies i.e RPF, BSF, Local police, WBF&ES, Civil Defence, railway department and NGOs. During the entire operation, area was cordoned by RPF and local police. Traffic police & NGOs were controlling the mob. NDRF teams have played vital role and carried out successful rescue & extrication operation and brought laurels to the elite organization by successfully extricating 04 dead bodies and 01 live victim from the various coaches. A total of 73 victims shifted to hospital for further treatment and 09 dead bodies retrieved from the incident site by all agencies.
