National Disaster Response Force Celebrated 12th Raising Day

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is a specialized multi skilled, humanitarian force of the country to provide immediate response in the event of natural or man-made disaster. NDRF came into existence on January 19th, 2006 and since its inception NDRF has been playing a vital role in Disaster Management and Community Awareness for disaster risk reduction in country. It is also the single largest stand-alone disaster response force in the world. The Force has created remarkable credibility and confidence amongst the countrymen by dint of its sheer hard work, professional conduct and humanitarian approach in the field of disaster rescue and relief operations. Apart from rescue operations, NDRF is also proactively involved in community capacity building for disaster response and imparting training to State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
Today, National Disaster Response Force celebrated its 12th Raising Day at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The Hon’ble Minister of State for Home, Shri Kiren Rijiju, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Shri R.K Pachnanda, Director General, NDRF welcomed the forum and highlighted the role of NDRF in making India disaster resilient and gave insight of important operations conducted by the Force during this year. In current year, NDRF has provided relief and rescue operations in a number of disasters including floods, train accidents, building collapse incidents, landslides in various parts of the country.
During the year 2016-17, NDRF has been deployed on more than 361 instances in various parts of the country wherein it has saved and rescued around 77,160 persons. So far, NDRF has saved more than 5,50,650 persons in various rescue and relief operation across the country and abroad.
Sh. Kiren Rijiju, praised the NDRF for its role in the field of Disaster and said that this force has established its image as a savior for the people in distress by demonstrating high level of professionalism, determination and hard work by endangering their precious lives and countering multiple challenges with bravery to save the lives and property of our countrymen. This country is indebted to those NDRF martyrs who made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty to save the people during disaster. On this auspicious day, Hon’ble Minister released the NDRF Coffee Table Book (pictorial), Souvenir and launched NDRF Geo-portal.
During this ceremony the Next of Kins of our brave Martyrs who have been awarded the “Jeewan Rakshak Padak” for the supreme sacrifice they made for the country, were facilitated. Thereafter investor ceremony took place for NDRF officers and soldiers, who were awarded President Police Medal for Meritorious Service and President Police Medal for Distinguished service for their invaluable service.
The Programmes was witnessed by representatives from different organizations, various ministries, NDMA, NIDM, CPOs and media persons.
