NDRF ORGANISINED TWO DAYS TABLE TOP AND MOCK EXERCISE ON RADIOLOGICAL EMERGENCY AT BANGALURU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

The National Disaster Response Force constituted as per DM Act 2005 for the purpose of specialized response to natural and man-made disaster and disaster like situation. As on date NDRF is having strength of 12 Battalions. Each NDRF Bn. consists of 1149 trained rescuers for disaster response. These NDRF battalions are located at twelve different locations in the country based on the vulnerability profile of region and to minimise the response time for immediate response to disaster affected people.
Two days table top and mock exercise on leakage radiological material was organised at Bangalore. Senior officials from NDRF with Shri S.S. Guleria, DIG (Ops/ Trg) participated in exercise which was organised at International Airport Bangaluru (KA).Participants were given a presentation on “Capability of NDRF in dealing with Radiological Emergencies” and “Introduction of incident command system” to various stakeholders. Other stakeholders also gave a presentation on their capabilities in said exercise. Following organizations participated:-

Second day on 10/01/16, a team of NDRF equipped with high tech equipment for radiological emergency conducted a Mock Exercise on radiological emergency. A real time scenario of disperse of radiation from radiological elements i.e. Cobalt 60 and liquid iodine at Cargo of Bangaluru International Airport was depicted. During hour long exercise, NDRF demonstrated of sophisticated equipment like Teletector, Alcein Monitor, Portable Gamma Spectrometer, GM Survey Meter, Electric/ Personal Dosi meter, Thermo Luminescent Dosi (TLD) Meter, Beta Gamma counting system etc. and demonstrated their skills in detection of radiological sources and its shielding using the latest radiation detection equipment and transporting, evacuation, decontamination, triage, medical first aid and shifting of victims for further medical care as well as crowed control and management of whole incident through incident command system.
The dignitaries, visitors appreciated the role of stakeholders during exercise.
This event has created awareness about NDMA, NDRF and disaster management at a large. It also developed tremendous amount of goodwill and high level positive image for NDMA as well as NDRF.
